Each pyramid tapers to a papilla that projects into a minor calyx, and the calyces converge into the renal pelvis before continuing as the proximal ureter. Segmental branches of the renal artery and tributaries of the renal vein course toward and away from the hilum, with arcuate vessels implied along the corticomedullary junction.
