Description
Clusters of multilocular brown adipocytes fill the field, each cell outlined by a thin plasma membrane and containing multiple small lipid droplets dispersed through a granular, mitochondria-rich cytoplasm. Round to oval nuclei sit eccentrically rather than being flattened at the periphery, a common teaching contrast with unilocular white fat. Scattered intracellular organelles are suggested in the cytosol against a clean background, keeping attention on the cellular architecture of brown adipose tissue. Brown fat is the thermogenic arm of adipose biology, and its hallmark is dense mitochondria expressing uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), which shunts the proton gradient toward heat production rather than ATP synthesis. That cellular setup matters clinically when discussing neonatal temperature regulation, adult supraclavicular and paravertebral brown fat depots, and the sympathetic control (beta-adrenergic stimulation) that drives both lipolysis and heat generation.
