Description
Running deep to the medial eyebrow, the depressor supercilii is rendered beneath the facial skin in a lateral craniofacial view, positioned inferior to the frontal belly of occipitofrontalis and blending with fibers of orbicularis oculi near the supraorbital margin. Medially, its attachment relates to the frontal process of the maxilla and the region of the glabella, where it interdigitates with corrugator supercilii and procerus to contour the brow line. Bony landmarks include the frontal, parietal, and temporal bones with the zygomatic arch and mandible forming the lateral facial profile; the external ear, nasal cavity shading, and upper dentition help orient the midface. Functionally, the depressor supercilii contributes to inferomedial brow descent and glabellar rhytids by pulling the eyebrow downward while corrugator supercilii draws it medially, a coupling that matters in aesthetic and reconstructive planning of the “glabellar complex.” Small muscle, big expression.
