Description
Running along the deep posterior compartment of the male leg, the posterior tibial artery descends inferiorly from the popliteal artery after the tibiofibular trunk bifurcation, accompanying the tibial nerve and posterior tibial veins. An oblique, medial-biased perspective brings the vessel into clear relief as it courses distal to the soleus (via the tendinous arch) and tracks posterior to the tibia, with perforating branches supplying the posterior compartment and medial malleolar region. Superficial venous pathways, including the great saphenous vein on the medial leg, contrast with the paired deep venae comitantes that flank the artery.
