From the encephalon and cord, yellow peripheral nerve trajectories radiate outward, suggesting the emergence of cranial nerves from the ventral brainstem and upper cervical spinal nerves from the intervertebral foramina. The cerebellum sits posteroinferior to the occipital lobes, while the pons forms a ventral bulge anterior to the cerebellum and superior to the medulla. Cortical surface area dominates.
