Medial exposure of the male lower limb tracks the sciatic nerve distally as it descends posterior to the femur and approaches the popliteal fossa, where it separates into the tibial nerve and the common fibular (peroneal) nerve. The common fibular nerve then courses laterally along the proximal calf, skirting the biceps femoris tendon region toward the fibular head and neck, while the tibial nerve remains more medial and deep, continuing into the posterior compartment. Bony landmarks anchor the pathway, including the pelvis superiorly, the femur and patella at the knee, and the tibia and fibula extending to the tarsals, metatarsals, and phalanges.
