Centered over the nasal bridge, the procerus (pyramidalis nasi) sits in the superficial facial musculature, arising from the nasal bone and upper lateral nasal cartilages and fanning superiorly into the skin of the lower glabella. Its fibers lie anterior to the nasal bones and blend superiorly with the frontalis and inferiorly with slips of the transverse part of the nasalis. Medially, the procerus meets its contralateral partner across the dorsum of the nose, while laterally it approaches the corrugator supercilii, which runs superolaterally from the medial superciliary arch into the eyebrow. The overlying integument is rendered semi-transparently, preserving external landmarks of the male face while exposing the muscle planes beneath. Functionally, this small muscle matters because it drives the characteristic transverse rhytids over the nasal root and contributes to the medial brow depression seen in frowning, a key element of the glabellar complex.
