Description
Presented as a midsagittal section, the cranium is opened through the calvaria to expose the cerebral hemispheres superiorly, the cerebellum in the posterior cranial fossa, and the brainstem continuous with the spinal cord at the level of the foramen magnum. Inferior to the cranial base, the vertebral canal descends within the vertebral column, framed by the vertebral bodies anteriorly and the vertebral arches posteriorly. Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal segments are distinguishable along the midline, with intervertebral discs separating adjacent vertebrae and helping define the spinal curvatures.
