Description
Cribriform plate (lamina cribrosa) of the ethmoid bone occupies the center of the anterior cranial fossa in this superior perspective, its sieve-like cribriform foramina clustered on either side of the midline crista galli. Small perforations form a dense field lateral to the crista galli, while the thicker bony midline ridge rises superiorly for attachment of the falx cerebri. More laterally, the ethmoid labyrinth margins border the cribriform region and guide orientation toward the orbital roofs, placing the olfactory area medial to the fovea ethmoidalis and anterior to the planum sphenoidale. Fine surface contours around the plate help distinguish the relatively fragile central skull base from the more robust surrounding bone. Fragile anatomy.
