Description

Framed from an inferior angle beneath the mandible, the submental lymphatics are shown coursing in the midline floor of the mouth, superficial to the mylohyoid and closely related to the anterior belly of the digastric on each side. Small submental lymph nodes sit just inferior to the mandibular symphysis, receiving lymph from the lower lip and the submental skin before draining posteriorly toward the submandibular nodes along the body of the mandible. Adjacent neurovascular landmarks include the internal jugular vein and common carotid artery within the carotid sheath, with the sternocleidomastoid forming a lateral boundary as it runs from mastoid process to sternum and clavicle.
