Centered in the right upper quadrant, the liver occupies the subdiaphragmatic space deep to the inferior ribs, its convex diaphragmatic surface facing superiorly and anteriorly. Inferiorly, the sharp anterior border approaches the costal margin, while the visceral surface turns posteroinferiorly toward the stomach and proximal duodenum. The right lobe extends laterally beneath the right hemidiaphragm, with the left lobe crossing the midline toward the epigastrium, overlying the lesser curvature region. Surface anatomy dominates.
