Description
Anteriorly sectioned through the aortic root, the view centers on the left ventricular outflow tract as it transitions into the proximal ascending aorta. The aortic annulus lies inferiorly, giving rise to the sinuses of Valsalva (aortic bulb, bulbus aortae), with the sinotubular junction forming a superior boundary before the vessel continues cranially as the ascending aorta. At this level you would expect to appreciate the relationship of the aortic root to the interventricular septum medially and the right ventricular outflow tract and pulmonary trunk anterolaterally. Short segment. Big consequences. Clinical work often lives in this anatomy. Aortic stenosis and aortic regurgitation hinge on the geometry of the annulus, cusps, and sinotubular junction, and an anterior internal section helps clarify why annular dilation can produce central regurgitation even when leaflet tissue is otherwise intact.
