Bronchial Structure of the Right Lateral Basal Segment

Bronchial anatomy of the right lower lobe is the focus, centered on the lateral basal segmental bronchus (B9) as it branches distally from the lower lobe bronchus and courses inferolaterally toward the posterolateral parenchyma. Proximal relationships typically include the bronchus intermedius superiorly and the takeoff of the superior segmental bronchus (B6) more posterior and cranial, while adjacent basal segmental bronchi (B7, B8, B10) diverge medially and posteriorly within the basal pyramid. Segmental orientation is reinforced by the expected accompanying pulmonary artery branch running superior to the bronchus and segmental pulmonary veins tracking more intersegmentally, often inferior and anterior to the bronchial lumen. Right sided asymmetry matters. The middle lobe bronchus lies anterior and superior compared with the lower lobe bronchial tree.
