Description
Posteriorly oriented, the right lung is presented with emphasis on the lateral segmental (subsegmental) bronchus coursing toward the pleural surface. The bronchus is traced distally from its origin off a lobar bronchus and directed laterally, away from the mediastinal surface, within the substance of the lower lobe. Adjacent pulmonary parenchyma and the visceral pleura form the outer boundary, while more medial conducting airways sit deeper toward the hilum. Segmental relationships are kept clear. A clean posterior road map. Segmental bronchial anatomy matters when the operative plan or the bronchoscopy report is organized by bronchopulmonary segments rather than by lobes.
