Description
Rendered as a peripheral blood granulocyte, the leukocyte is shown with a segmented, typically bilobed nucleus positioned centrally and occupying much of the cell volume. Coarse cytoplasmic granules fill the cytoplasm from perinuclear region to the cell periphery, partially obscuring nuclear contours in places and giving the cell its characteristic granular texture. The plasma membrane forms a slightly irregular, rounded outline consistent with a circulating white blood cell in a smear-type presentation. Scale is implied rather than measured. For teaching morphology, this cell sits at a common diagnostic crossroads: eosinophils are identified by a bilobed nucleus and large, refractile specific granules, while basophils are distinguished by dense basophilic granules that can mask the nucleus and by their role in immediate hypersensitivity. A sharp depiction of nuclear lobation versus granule density helps anchor manual differential counts and correlates directly with CBC review in allergy, parasitic infection, and drug reaction workups. Misclassification happens. This view reduces it.
