Description
Presented in an anterior sectional plane through the adult female pelvis, the urinary bladder is opened to reveal the lumen and a discrete calcium oxalate monohydrate calculus resting dependently along the posterior-inferior bladder wall. The mucosal lining and underlying detrusor muscle form the bladder contour, narrowing inferiorly into the bladder neck and proximal urethra. Superior to the trigone region, the dome (apex) lies closer to the anterior abdominal wall, while the posterior surface relates to the anterior vaginal wall and cervix region in typical female topography. Orientation is clear. Calcium oxalate monohydrate stones are dense, often hard calculi that resist simple fragmentation compared with some uric acid stones, and their presence in the bladder (cystolithiasis) commonly reflects urinary stasis, outlet obstruction, foreign material, or chronic infection rather than primary renal stone passage alone. In women, bladder stones are less frequent than in men, so this view helps teach the differential when symptoms include suprapubic pain, dysuria, terminal hematuria, recurrent urinary tract infection, or intermittent urinary retention, and it highlights how a dependent calculus can irritate the trigone and bladder neck. The sectional perspective also supports discussion of cystoscopic correlation, where the stone is encountered within the lumen and assessed relative to the ureteric orifices and internal urethral orifice.
