Description
Anterior pelvic viscera are arranged to emphasize the uterus positioned superior to the vagina, with the cervix forming the narrow junction between the uterine cavity and the vaginal canal. The myometrium encircles the endometrial cavity, and the uterine fundus sits most superior, while the vaginal lumen extends inferiorly toward the introitus. Cervical tissue appears as a thicker, fibromuscular ring, continuous with the vaginal fornices laterally and posteriorly where the canal cups the cervix. Spatial relationships are presented in straightforward anatomical position. Clear. This configuration matters when teaching the mechanical and obstetric functions of the birth canal, because cervical effacement and dilation occur at the cervix while the myometrium generates the contractile force that drives fetal descent through the vagina.
