Description

Dominating the anterior thorax, the male heart is rendered with the epicardial coronary vasculature traced in red for arterial supply and blue for cardiac veins. The right coronary artery courses in the right atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus between right atrium and right ventricle, while the left coronary artery quickly divides into an anterior interventricular branch (left anterior descending) descending toward the apex and a circumflex branch sweeping leftward in the atrioventricular groove. Venous counterparts track nearby, converging toward the coronary sinus on the posterior aspect even when only its drainage pathways are implied from an anterior approach. Color coding is unambiguous. Clinical readers will recognize why an anterior perspective matters: the LAD runs on the sternocostal surface and supplies the anterior left ventricle and anterior two thirds of the interventricular septum, the territory most often implicated in acute anterior STEMI and a common target for percutaneous coronary intervention. Relationships to the great vessels at the base of the heart help orient catheter paths from the aortic root to the coronary ostia, while the superficial, epicardial course explains why coronary arteries are vulnerable during cardiac surgery, pericardiotomy, or trauma. These are surgical landmarks. For teaching, the plate fits cardiovascular anatomy, gross anatomy lab orientation, and pathophysiology modules on coronary artery disease, bypass graft planning (LIMA to LAD, saphenous vein to RCA or circumflex branches), and venous drainage patterns relevant to cardiac resynchronization lead placement via the coronary sinus. It also suits textbooks and patient-facing materials that need an accurate map of coronary vessels in relation to adjacent organs such as liver and upper gastrointestinal viscera. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
