Description
Positioned along the inferior rim of the auricle, the antitragicus muscle is shown deep to the skin overlying the antitragus, with its fibers spanning between the antitragus and the cauda helicis on the posteroinferior pinna. A lateral cutaway preserves surface landmarks such as the tragus, intertragic notch, concha, and lobule, while exposing the intrinsic muscular layer tucked against the auricular cartilage. Superior and posterior to the pinna, the temporal scalp and adjacent soft tissues frame the ear, clarifying the relationship of the auricle to the lateral skull. Small as it is, antitragicus matters when you need to distinguish intrinsic auricular musculature from the extrinsic auricular muscles and from the mimetic muscles that surround the ear. That distinction comes up in otoplasty planning and in traumatic auricular reconstruction, where cartilage shaping and fixation near the antitragus can alter contour and tension across the lower helix.
