Description
Positioned on the lateral surface of the auricle (pinna), the minor helical muscle (musculus helicis minor) lies superficial to the auricular cartilage along the anterior limb of the helix, immediately adjacent to the crus helicis as it projects into the conchal bowl. From this profile perspective, the helical rim curves superiorly and posteriorly, while the crus of the helix sits more anterior and medial, bridging toward the concha. Subtle relief of the scapha and antihelix typically frames the region posteriorly. Small structure, specific landmark. For otologic teaching, this view matters because the intrinsic auricular muscles are easy to confuse with the extrinsic auricular muscles and with cartilaginous folds when learners first encounter the auricle in dissection or surface anatomy.
