Description
Palmar vasculature is presented in anterior view, centered on the radial and ulnar arteries as they pass distally into the hand and contribute to the superficial and deep palmar arches. From these arches, common palmar digital arteries course distally in the palm and divide into proper palmar digital arteries along the medial and lateral margins of each finger, running adjacent to the digital nerves within the neurovascular bundles. A superficial venous network is also visible, tracking proximally from the digits and palm, with tributaries converging toward the radial and ulnar aspects of the wrist. Dense branching. Clear laterality. Understanding the palmar arches matters when you need to predict collateral flow and procedural risk. Radial artery harvest for coronary bypass, transradial catheterization, and trauma at the thenar or hypothenar eminences all hinge on the integrity of the superficial palmar arch and its anastomosis with the ulnar artery, classically screened with the Allen test. This anterior perspective also supports surgical planning for digital revascularization and helps explain why lacerations at the level of the metacarpal heads can compromise more than one digit through injury to a common palmar digital vessel.
