Description
Posteriorly, the calcaneus dominates the hindfoot, forming the heel and sitting inferior to the talus at the subtalar joint. Superior to the calcaneus, the talus nestles within the ankle mortise, bounded medially by the distal tibia and laterally by the distal fibula, with the malleoli flanking the talar trochlea. Distal to the tarsals, the metatarsals align in the midfoot and forefoot and continue into the phalanges, which taper toward the toes.
