Description
Oriented to the lateral aspect of the male knee, the circumflex fibular vein courses around the fibular head and neck, running in close company with the circumflex fibular artery as it wraps posterior to anterior along the proximal fibula. Superiorly, the distal femur and lateral femoral condyle articulate with the lateral tibial plateau, while the patella lies anterior to the joint line and the patellar tendon descends to the tibial tuberosity. Laterally, the iliotibial tract and biceps femoris tendon approach the fibular head, with the lateral collateral ligament spanning from the lateral femoral epicondyle to the fibular head in the same neighborhood. Small venules and periarticular venous channels converge toward the circumflex route. A lateral view is the one that clarifies why this vein matters: the fibular head is a crowded surgical corridor, where vascular structures share space with the common fibular (peroneal) nerve as it winds around the neck of the fibula. Injury here is not theoretical.
