Oriented from a posterior perspective on the proximal leg, the circumflex fibular vein courses around the head and neck of the fibula, tracking laterally from the popliteal region before curving to rejoin the deeper venous network. Adjacent landmarks logically visible in this view include the lateral head of gastrocnemius and the proximal fibers of soleus, with the biceps femoris tendon forming a superior and lateral boundary near the fibular head. The vein sits posterolateral to the tibia and inferior to the lateral femoral condyle, in the same neighborhood where the common fibular (peroneal) nerve winds around the fibular neck.
