Description
Posterior oblique body habitus frames an overlaid alimentary tract, with the esophagus descending in the midline, passing through the diaphragm to join the stomach in the left upper quadrant. Superior to the stomach, the liver occupies the right upper quadrant, its inferior surface related to the gallbladder, while the pancreas lies retroperitoneally, transverse and posterior to the gastric antrum and proximal duodenum. Centrally, jejunal and ileal loops fill the mid and lower abdomen, and the large intestine forms a peripheral frame, ascending on the right, crossing as the transverse colon, then descending on the left to the sigmoid colon and rectum in the pelvis. Spatial relationships read clearly despite the posterior vantage.
