Description
Posteriorly, the left acetabulofemoral (hip) joint is framed by the posterior ilium and ischium, with the femoral head seated in the acetabulum and the femoral neck running distally and slightly anterior from the socket. The fibrous capsule is emphasized as it spans from the acetabular rim and transverse acetabular ligament to the intertrochanteric region, with its posterior fibers blending toward the ischial aspect of the hip bone. Superior to the joint line, the sacrum and lower lumbar vertebrae provide midline context, while the ischial tuberosity lies inferior and posterior as a clear bony landmark. Strong landmarks. Posterior views matter because they align with the structures most at risk in posterior hip dislocation, where the femoral head is driven posteriorly out of the acetabulum, often impacting the posterior acetabular wall and threatening the nearby sciatic nerve as it courses posterior to the joint.
