Description
Positioned on the lateral face, the masseter muscle is rendered in red as a thick, quadrangular slab spanning from the zygomatic arch superiorly to the lateral surface of the mandibular ramus and angle inferiorly. The muscle sits superficial to the mandibular ramus, with its posterior fibers trending toward the region of the mandibular condyle and temporomandibular joint, while its anterior fibers lie closer to the body of the mandible and dentition. Surrounding bony landmarks include the zygomatic bone and arch laterally, the maxilla and nasal bones anteriorly, and the cranial vault with coronal, sagittal, and lambdoid sutures superior and posterior.
