Description
Plantar exposure of the male foot foregrounds the medial plantar artery as it courses anteriorly from the posterior tibial artery deep to the flexor retinaculum, then runs along the medial sole between abductor hallucis and flexor digitorum brevis. Distally, the vessel divides into superficial and deep branches, tracking toward the region of the first through third metatarsals while remaining medial to the lateral plantar artery and plantar arterial arch. Underlying skeletal landmarks include the calcaneus and talus proximally with the navicular, medial cuneiform, and metatarsals more distal, providing clear positional reference for the arterial pathway. Red arterial and blue venous channels are shown in close apposition around the tarsus and midfoot. Clean anatomy. This plantar perspective matters when teaching or planning interventions around the tarsal tunnel and medial plantar compartment, where the medial plantar artery travels alongside the tibial nerve and its medial plantar nerve branch.
