Description
Arising from the pulmonary trunk, the right pulmonary artery courses laterally and slightly posteriorly toward the right lung hilum, forming the dominant arterial conduit of the pulmonary circulation on that side. In right lateral view, its proximal segment lies anterior to the right main bronchus, then approaches the superior aspect of the hilum where it will branch into lobar and segmental arteries. The vessel’s relationship to the superior vena cava and ascending aorta is implied by its proximal position, but the focus remains on the arterial channel itself. Clean, uncluttered anatomy. This perspective matters when teaching or planning around the right hilar “RALS” arrangement, where the Right pulmonary Artery lies Anterior to the right main bronchus, a reliable distinction from the left side where the pulmonary artery sits superior to the bronchus.
