Description
Seen through a translucent dermal layer in left lateral profile, the sternohyoid appears as a slender infrahyoid strap muscle running superiorly from the posterior surface of the manubrium and medial clavicle toward the body of the hyoid bone. It lies anterior and slightly medial to the sternothyroid, with the sternocleidomastoid forming a more lateral boundary of the neck and partially overlapping the strap complex depending on head position. Superiorly, the hyoid sits just inferior to the mandible and tongue base, while posterior soft tissues hint at the carotid sheath region with venous channels coursing vertically. Surface landmarks stay readable. The jawline, ear, and suprasternal notch orient the viewer. A lateral, under-skin rendering like this matters when you want to connect strap muscle anatomy to procedures performed through small anterior cervical corridors.
