A superior fold typically sits on the left posterolateral wall, a middle fold on the right anterolateral wall, and an inferior fold again on the left, creating a staggered, transverse pattern rather than a straight channel. Relative to the anal canal, these folds lie superior to the anorectal junction and are oriented perpendicular to the long axis of the rectum. Their alternating left right arrangement is the point.
