Description
Presented as a transparent female figure, the cardiovascular system is traced from the heart in the middle mediastinum through the great vessels and into the systemic and pulmonary circuits. The ascending aorta rises superiorly from the left ventricle into the aortic arch, then continues as the descending thoracic and abdominal aorta, with major branches extending laterally toward the head and upper limbs and inferiorly toward the pelvis and lower limbs. Venous return is organized around the superior vena cava draining the head, neck, and upper extremities and the inferior vena cava receiving blood from abdominal, pelvic, and lower-limb tributaries, converging on the right atrium. Pulmonary trunk and pulmonary veins complete the lung loop. Clinically, this whole-body mapping helps you teach flow direction and pressure gradients, but it also supports practical discussions of where pathology declares itself. Atherosclerotic disease concentrates at branch points and curves, so the aortic arch and distal aorta provide classic sites for plaque burden and aneurysmal dilation, while venous pooling in dependent lower limbs frames the anatomy behind varicosities and deep vein thrombosis. Central venous access and cardiothoracic procedures also depend on understanding the relationship of the caval veins and great arteries to the heart’s position in the thorax. Landmarks matter. Use this artwork for undergraduate anatomy and physiology modules, cardiovascular block lectures, and patient-facing materials that need a single image to orient the heart, arteries, and veins in one continuous circuit. It also fits well in textbook overviews, clinical handouts on systemic versus pulmonary circulation, and slide decks introducing hemodynamics, shock pathways, and common vascular disease distributions. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
