Description

Presented in lateral profile, the male skull is shown with selected cranial bones color-coded in blue against the remaining calvaria and viscerocranium. Within the temporal region, the squamous part of the temporal bone and its zygomatic process project anteriorly to contribute to the zygomatic arch, lying lateral to the middle cranial fossa and superior to the mandibular fossa at the root of the arch. Medial to the zygomatic arch, the blue-highlighted component corresponds to the greater wing of the sphenoid forming the anterolateral skull base and lateral orbital wall, with its margins approaching the frontal, parietal, and temporal bones at the region of the pterion.
