Description
Presented in anterior orientation, a single male vertebra is shown with a compressed vertebral body demonstrating loss of vertical height and disruption of the superior and inferior endplates. Fracture lines track through the anterior cortex and into the cancellous bone, with red highlight localizing the principal zone of impaction. The pedicles arise posterolaterally from the body, while the posterior elements (laminae and spinous process) remain largely out of plane in this frontal view. Anterior vertebral body collapse is the classic morphology of a compression fracture, often producing an anterior wedge that drives segmental kyphosis at the injured level. Clinically, that distinction matters: a stable osteoporotic compression fracture usually spares the posterior wall, while a burst fracture from axial loading can involve the posterior vertebral body and retropulse fragments toward the spinal canal, changing both neurologic risk and management. Pain pattern, mechanism of injury, and imaging correlation on lateral radiographs and sagittal CT or MRI are typically taught using precisely this kind of anterior body emphasis. It is a common injury. Suitable for musculoskeletal anatomy teaching, emergency medicine and orthopedic trauma lectures, and radiology primers that contrast wedge compression with burst patterns and highlight vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty target anatomy.
