Arising as a distinct longitudinal ribbon on the colonic surface, the taenia mesocolica tracks along the segment of large intestine where the mesocolon attaches. Positioned on the posterior aspect of the adult male colon wall, it runs parallel to the other taeniae coli, remaining separated by intervening haustral sacculations and semilunar folds. Relative to the lumen, this smooth muscle band sits externally, and relative to the mesenteric border it marks the line of peritoneal reflection and mesenteric continuity. Recognition of the mesocolic tenia matters because it orients you to the mesenteric side of the colon, a practical landmark when teaching peritoneal relationships and when planning mobilization.
