Description
Posterior to the renal hilum, the posterior segment of the kidney is presented as a broad field of renal parenchyma oriented toward the retroperitoneal space. Renal cortex forms the peripheral rim, while the deeper medulla organizes into pyramids whose apices converge toward papillae draining into minor calyces and the renal pelvis, which lies more anterior and medial.
