Inferior Lip Depressor Beneath the Skin

Description

Deep to the skin of the lower face, the depressor labii inferioris (quadratus labii inferioris) is shown arising from the oblique line of the mandible and ascending superiorly to blend into the orbicularis oris and the integument of the lower lip. Medial to it, the paired mentalis sits over the mandibular symphysis, while the depressor anguli oris lies more lateral, converging toward the modiolus at the corner of the mouth. Semi-transparent bony anatomy of the maxilla, zygomatic arch, and mandible provides landmarks, with the dentition and the anterior cervical spine (including atlas and axis) establishing orientation from the chin inferiorly toward the neck.
