Description
Arising as a terminal branch of the inferior alveolar artery, the mental artery emerges laterally through the mental foramen on the anterolateral mandible, typically inferior to the second premolar, and then courses superiorly and anteriorly across the chin. From this lateral skull perspective, the vessel’s relationship to the mandibular body, the mental foramen, and the overlying soft-tissue vascular network of the lower lip and mental region is clear. Superficial facial arteries and veins track over the maxilla and mandible in standard red and blue coding, giving immediate skeletal context for the course of the vessel. Bone landmarks read cleanly.
