Description

Posterior thoracic vertebrae form the central scaffold, with vertebral bodies and pedicles giving way posteriorly to laminae and overlapping spinous processes. Between adjacent vertebral bodies, intervertebral discs appear as pale blue cushions, while red fascicles of deep posterior musculature anchor along the spinous and transverse processes, filling the paraspinal gutters on either side of the midline. Pale fibrous bands track longitudinally along the vertebral column, consistent with the supraspinous and interspinous ligaments superficially and the ligamenta flava spanning between adjacent laminae more deeply. Segmental tendinous attachments blend into periosteum at the bony prominences. A posterior thoracic focus like this clarifies how the intrinsic back muscles and ligamentous restraints cooperate to control flexion, extension, and coupled rotation in a region already stiffened by the rib cage.
