Positioned along the superior medial aspect of the knee, the superior medial genicular vein courses adjacent to the superior medial genicular artery as it curves around the distal femur near the medial epicondyle. An anterior perspective places the vessel deep to the medial retinacular tissues, crossing the suprapatellar region as it collects tributaries from the synovium and periosteum at the upper medial joint line. Inferiorly, its drainage communicates with the genicular venous network around the femorotibial articulation and the proximal tibia.
