Centered within the vertebral foramen, the spinal cord (myelon) sits posterior to the vertebral body and anterior to the laminae and spinous process, with the pedicles forming the lateral walls of the neural canal. A transverse section through the cord reveals butterfly-shaped gray matter (anterior and posterior horns) surrounded by white matter funiculi. Yellow spinal nerve rootlets emerge from the anterolateral and posterolateral sulci, converging toward the intervertebral foramen, while paired red and blue vessels trace the cord surface, consistent with the anterior spinal artery, posterior spinal arteries, and accompanying venous channels. Bone dominates the field. The relationship is the lesson.
