Inferior to the ventricular complex, the brainstem sits midline with the midbrain continuous with pons and medulla oblongata, and the cerebellum occupies the posteroinferior cranial fossa. Cranial nerves emerge from the ventral aspect of the brainstem and sweep laterally. This posterior, slightly caudally angled perspective matters because it clarifies the atrium as a three-way convergence point and a common source of spatial confusion when learners try to relate coronal imaging to gross anatomy.
