Seen in sagittal section within the adult female urinary bladder, the interureteric crest (plica interureterica) spans transversely across the posterior wall between the right and left ureteric orifices, forming the superior boundary of the trigone. Inferior to this ridge, the smooth trigonal mucosa slopes toward the internal urethral orifice at the bladder neck, while superiorly the bladder body rises toward the dome and peritoneal reflection. Posterior relations in this plane place the bladder base adjacent to the anterior vaginal wall and cervix region, a useful spatial cue when teaching female pelvic anatomy. Orientation to the interureteric crest matters because it is the landmark that anchors cystoscopic identification of the ureteric orifices and the trigone, helping clinicians avoid iatrogenic ureteric injury during transurethral resection, bladder neck procedures, or difficult urethral catheterization.
