Description
Running along the anterior compartment of the upper arm, the biceps brachii is shown with its long head positioned laterally and its short head medially, their bellies merging distally to form a single tendon toward the proximal radius. Superficial fascia and skin remain in place, so the muscle’s contour is read through the cutaneous layer rather than as a dissected specimen. Medial to the biceps, the course of the brachial vessels and the median nerve can be inferred in the neurovascular plane, while the triceps brachii occupies the posterior compartment as a contrasting extensor mass. Distally, the anterior forearm flexor group and wrist tendons align toward the carpus and digits in the extended limb. An anterior, subcutaneous view is the one clinicians default to when they palpate the bicipital groove region, locate a venipuncture site, or assess asymmetry after injury.
